Tire public hospital leads digital heathcare in Turkey

Tire State Hospital in Izmir, Turkey, has reaffirmed its status as a leader in digital healthcare with its fourth successful revalidation of HIMSS EMRAM Stage 7 status. Turkey has been one of the first countries to consistently use digital maturity frameworks for hospital transformation.

As the first hospital in Türkiye and the Middle East to achieve this top-tier recognition in 2016, Tire’s journey highlights sustained digital maturity and innovation. Following its initial milestone, the hospital has consistently met stringent standards through revalidations in 2019, 2021, and now 2024.

Achieving and maintaining EMRAM Stage 7 – the highest level of electronic medical record (EMR) integration – demonstrates Tire’s dedication to cutting-edge technology, data-driven patient care, and an efficient, near-paperless environment. This success is attributed to a strong culture of teamwork and continuous improvement among staff, according to hospital officials.

Türkiye’s National Drive for Digital Maturity

Tire’s achievements are part of a broader push for digital maturity within Türkiye’s healthcare system. Since 2003, the Ministry of Health has driven a national transformation program emphasizing healthcare modernization through digital means. The cornerstone of this initiative is the adoption of Electronic Health Records (EHRs) and the integration of Hospital Information Systems (HIS).

To ensure consistent progress, Türkiye conducted a comprehensive digital maturity assessment across all public hospitals using the HIMSS EMRAM model. This strategy not only improved healthcare delivery but positioned the country as a regional leader in health informatics. By 2021, every public hospital in Türkiye had attained at least basic EHR functionality – a major step toward a fully integrated, efficient healthcare system.
