At the Digital Health Days 2024 in Bavaria, Lemonmint’s session “El futuro es nuestro” showcased how true innovation goes beyond ideas to deliver real value, uniting fresh thinking and in-depth experience to drive change together. The event offered students the unique opportunity to engage directly with Hal Wolf, CEO and President of HIMSS, a global leader in healthcare innovation.
Hal Wolf, CEO and President of HIMSS, discussed the critical role of people, processes, and technology in turning ideas into sustainable value. The exchange between Wolf and the students provided valuable insights and real-time feedback on their projects, emphasizing the importance of innovation driven by both purpose and practical application.
Hosted by Lemonmint’s CEO and Founder, Armin Scheuer, in collaboration with Pilar Fernández Hermida, CEO and Founder of i-xpand, the session explored the idea that innovation only becomes meaningful when it delivers tangible value.

Scheuer highlighted that innovation must go beyond being a mere concept and must translate into practical, valuable solutions that impact healthcare systems and patient outcomes.
Fernández Hermida underscored the dual challenge faced by startups in healthcare: creating solutions that genuinely improve patient outcomes while navigating complex regulatory and market environments to build a sustainable business.
Several student-led presentations offered a glimpse into how local innovation can tackle pressing healthcare challenges:

Hazel D’Coutu: Improving Diabetes Management in Kerala, India
Kerala’s elderly population faces significant challenges managing diabetes due to limited rural outreach and low digital literacy. Hazel D’Coutu discussed strategies to bridge these gaps and empower patients with enhanced care access.

Huohong Ear: Global Data-Sharing
Huohong Ear focused on breaking down barriers to effective global data-sharing, including regulatory constraints and cultural differences. He advocated for expanding the US TEFCA initiative globally.

Rupa Ramachandran: Bridging the Menopause Awareness Gap
Rupa Ramachandran presented an innovative proposal to engage men in rural India in menopause awareness campaigns through solar-powered digital posters displayed at local ATMs. She suggested to proactively involved men in women’s health.

Peachapong Poolpol: Streamlining Patient Referrals in Thailand
Peachapong Poolpol addressed Thailand’s complex patient referral system, hampered by inconsistent hospital information systems and limited data exchange. He discussed strategies for streamlining referrals and reducing inefficiencies.
During the session, Hal Wolf advised students to “care about information, not the data.” He emphasized that data itself is merely “0s and 1s on a server,” but the information it contains holds the keys to improving health and care.
“El Futuro Es Nuestro” was organized at the Digital Health Day in Bavaria, Germany, as part of Lemonmint’s broader effort to pave the way for the next generation of healthcare professionals.
