With the launch of PharmGenetix Burgenland GmbH, Gesundheit Burgenland, the regional healthcare provider of the Austrian state of Burgenland, and Wirtschaftsagentur Burgenland GmbH (WAB), the regional economic agency, are establishing a competence center for personalized medicine. Lemonmint consulted the management and guided decision-making through strategic analysis, investment case development, and business planning.
PharmGenetix Burgenland provides pharmacogenetic analyses combined with a clinically applicable software solution. By integrating analytics, algorithms, and tools into clinical workflows, therapies can be tailored to individual patient profiles – reducing adverse drug reactions and improving treatment outcomes.
“By integrating pharmacogenetics into our healthcare system, we are taking an important step towards more precise and patient-centered therapies,” said Franz Öller, CEO of Gesundheit Burgenland. “This initiative strengthens our commitment to innovation and to continuously improving treatment outcomes for our patients.”
From opportunity assessment to business case
To support the initiative, Gesundheit Burgenland and WAB engaged Lemonmint to assess the opportunity, advise on the asset acquisition, and plan the launch through a newly established entity.
“Our role was to translate a strong scientific foundation into a sustainable model for real-world application.”

“Establishing a competence center for personalized medicine requires more than strong technology – it requires a viable model for integration into the healthcare system,” said Martin Eberhart, Partner at Lemonmint. “Our role was to translate a strong scientific foundation into a sustainable model for real-world application.”
Lemonmint first conducted a market and asset analysis to inform the investment decision. Building on this, the team developed the business plan, defining a sustainable operating model and a clear positioning within the healthcare system.
“Lemonmint is a partner who acted quickly and professionally. Thanks to their specialization and deep understanding of public health systems, they helped us navigate a complex situation, make well-informed decisions, and became a trusted partner to all stakeholders involved.”, said Rainer Schmitl, CEO of PharmGenetics Burgenland.
The competence center builds on the foundation of the former PharmGenetix GmbH. Following the insolvency of the original company, Gesundheit Burgenland seized the opportunity to take over key assets and relaunch the initiative within a new structural framework – embedding pharmacogenetics into routine care.
