As part of the Digital Maturity Tour, Professor Peter Schwarz, President of the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), will visit Scotland for a two-day engagement focused on digital innovation in diabetes care.

The visit will bring together senior policy, clinical, and academic leaders to explore Scotland’s digitally enabled ecosystem for diabetes care and prevention. Discussions will cover national policy priorities, research advancements, and digital innovation models, highlighting Scotland’s Triple Helix approach to scaling healthcare innovation.

With diabetes affecting over 540 million people worldwide, this stop will strengthen international collaboration and drive forward digital transformation in diabetes care.

Key Highlights of the Scotland Stop:

  • Seminar & Networking (Day 1) – Insights from Diabetes Health & Care Scotland, including national policy, NHS diabetes research, and digital innovation models for scaling prevention and remission strategies. Professor Schwarz will deliver a keynote address on diabetes as a global challenge and IDF’s mission.
  • Research & Digital Maturity (Day 2) – A visit to Research Data Scotland to explore the role of data-driven healthcare in diabetes management, followed by discussions with the Scottish Government’s Digital Health & Care team on digital maturity models and national digital health initiatives.
